While the Master Program offers the technical skills of business, finance, and management, graduates of Master Program don’t always have the soft skills invaluable for getting a job in the world of business. This means Master Program candidates need to make sure they learn everything they need, even if their program does not offer

What skills are companies looking for while hiring Master Program Candidates?

The Survey list names the skills/traits that employers look for in Master Program candidates. Survey respondents were asked to rank the most important from among 12 traits. A candidate’s ability to fit within an organizational culture is now ranked the most desirable trait.

The second most-important trait valued across industrial and regional categories is an ability to work as part of teams; the third most-important is an ability make an impact.

Across industries, these three traits appear among the top five. However, for companies in the energy and utilities sector, leadership potential is the top trait. It is the second most-important quality for the health care and pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and products and services sectors.

At the bottom of the list, for a majority of industries, are curiosity, ability to work independently, and executive presence.

Social media

By design, social media shares ideas and information through virtual networks and communities.

Master Program candidates need to know — or at least understand — the critical role social media plays in business. Employers expect graduates to know how to create social media promotion plans for product launches, and how to manage different platforms.

This does not mean you need to learn every platform, but you need to know what they are, how they work, and how to move information across them in ways that are meaningful and, in the event of mistakes, reversible.

If you learn nothing else about social media, teach yourself this one concept: influencers. Social media influencers are people who have sway over others’ buying decisions. Know why they are important and where to find them.

International standards

Here’s one that new Master Program Candidates haven’t necessarily had experience with. It’s not easy to deal with international standards.

In order to meet the needs of clients across the globe, you need to understand the work culture, ethics, and laws of different places. If you plan to go into overseas work, you need to have not just the skills of an Master Program, but the skills of a seasoned international communications
